Put away your dictionary and smartphone and learn to read like a native speaker with Context Clues-Reading. English language learners who rely on dictionaries rarely use the vocabulary they have learned. This is because it is a very lazy and unnatural way to learn new words. While native speakers do use dictionaries they tend to use them sensibly. If they see a word they don’t understand, they try to guess its meaning from the context before consulting a dictionary.

Context clues can usually be found in the nearby text. They act as signaling words or phrases that reveal the meaning of the difficult or unknown vocabulary.

The doctor conducted a check-up which is a physical examination carried out by medical staff to determine the patient’s fitness.
Some celestial bodies, such as the planets and stars, can be seen with the naked eye.
