Joel was born and raised in the beautiful seaside town of Bournemouth, famous for its seven mile long golden sandy beach in the south coast of the United Kingdom. He attended university locally at Bournemouth University where he graduated with a degree in Business Information Technology in the year 2000. 

After graduating, Joel worked in IT before moving to the Banking sector, where he worked for two blue chip UK companies – The Royal Bank of Scotland and Barclays, holding various positions in relationship management, looking after local business clients with annual turnovers ranging from $1,000,000 to £25,000,000. 

In 2011, he left the UK and completed the CELTA in Vietnam. He started his teaching career working at ILA in Ho Chi Minh City, teaching young learners of all ages and abilities as well as adults and IELTS classes. After working at ILA for two years, he worked for a further six years at RMIT University in district 7 teaching academic English on their pre tertiary course. He held a number of positions such as educator, senior educator and assessment coordinator. During his time at RMIT, he completed all three modules of the DELTA and a Masters in TESOL.

In addition to the above, Joel has also worked in various other educational positions, such as teaching short term IELTS classes, 1 to 1 students, curriculum design and giving presentations to schools and universities relating to the IELTS test all over the south of Vietnam. 

In his free time, he enjoys keeping fit and is currently a gym enthusiast. He was previously a keen runner having completed the New York City Marathon and numerous other half marathons, including the Siem Reap Half Marathon in 2018. Other hobbies include playing chess, reading Jack Reacher novels, drinking coffee and traveling to new places.
