Những lỗi sai phổ biết nhất trong bài thi IELTS

Trong chuyên mục “từ đúng – từ sai” kỳ này,  thầy sẽ điểm qua những lỗi dùng từ phổ biến trong bài thi IELTS. Dưới đây là những từ thường được sử dụng không chính xác trong cả văn nói và viết nên em cần lưu ý cẩn thận.

Correct: So that – have to – an effect on – a lack of – most of the

Incorrect: affect to – are lack of – must to – most of – all of – some of

So That is used to give a reason

So is used to give a result

Correct:

  • He got divorced, so he is sad.
  • He got divorced so that he could get a new girlfriend.

Incorrect

  • She studied all night so that she is tired.

Ngoài ra, có rất nhiều bạn thường hay “hiểu lầm”trong cách sử dụng từ “MUST”.Chú ý nhé theo sau “must” KHÔNG được có TO nhé. Đừng nhầm lẫn với “have to”, dù rằng cả 2 đều mang hàm ý giống nhau.

Have to/must

Must is never followed by ‘to’.  Don’t get mixed up with have to.  When used to show obligation, they mean the same.

Correct

  • He must submit his assignment by Thursday.
  • He has to submit his assignment by Thursday.

Incorrect

  • He must to submit his assignment by Thursday.

lack (of)

When used as a verb, there is no ‘of’ with lack:

Correct

  • He lacks intelligence.

Incorrect

  • He is lack of intelligence.
  • He lacks of intelligence.

When used as part of a noun phrase, include of:

Correct

  • He has a lack of intelligence.

Khi được sử dụng như một động từ, “lack”  không kèm theo giới từ “of”

Khi sử dụng some/most/all dùng sau chúng là “of the” chứ không phải “of”

some/most/all (of)

When using these, use them without of or with of the:

Correct

  • Some people enjoy sports. (we use this to refer to nouns in general)
  • Some of the people that study with me play football. (we use this to refer to more specific groups of nouns)

Incorrect

  • Most of people enjoy sports.

Effect (on)/affect

Affect is a verb.  Do not use it with ‘to’

Correct

  • The weather affects people.

Incorrect

  • The weather affects to people
  • Effect is a noun.  We use it with ‘on’ when we want to show which noun is influenced.

Correct

  • The weather has an effect on people.

Incorrect

  • The weather has an effect people

Affect là động từ trong khi effect là danh từ. Không sử dụng affect với “to” và dùng effect với “on”
