Summarize the information by selecting and reporting the main features, and make comparisons where relevant.
The line graph illustrates the annual number of immigrants to the USA, Canada, and Australia from 1990 to 2001.
Overall, the USA consistently attracted the highest number of immigrants despite a steady decline. On the other hand, Canada saw stable figures while Australia experienced growth towards the end.
In 1991, the USA received just under 1.5 million immigrants, peaking at approximately 1.8 million in 1992. However, numbers plummeted to about 1 million by 1993, after which immigrants to the US gradually declined to their lowest point of roughly 700,000 between 1999 and 2000. A slight rebound occurred in the final year, with the figure rising to around 900,000 by 2001.
Meanwhile, Canada’s immigration levels started at 200,000 in 1991 and then slightly increased to about 250,000 by 1994 before returning to just over 200,000, where it remained over the next 5 years. Immigration to Canada then spiked to its peak of just over 400,000 in 2001. In contrast, Australia had the lowest numbers, hovering at about 100,000 throughout the period with the exception of a slight dip to about 50,000 between 1994 and 1995. It ultimately managed to peak at just under 200,000 immigrants over the last two years.
