Recruitment: Academic Manager

KTDC IELTS is looking for: 01 Academic Manager Provide leadership and oversight for all academic operations, including teacher recruitment, training, performance management, curriculum, testing, and student support. The Academic Manager ensures academic excellence, operational efficiency, and alignment with KTDC’s strategic goals.

1. Job Description:

1.1 Recruitment & Onboarding:

  • Responsible for appropriate forecasting teacher recruitment needs to ensure consistent teacher standards and achieve center KPIs.
  • Lead the full recruitment cycle for teaching staff.
  • Conduct CV screening, interviews, demo lessons, and final evaluations.
  • Create standardized interview questionnaires with scoring grids and minimum hiring criteria.
  • Build and maintain all recruitment-related SOPs and evaluation tools.
  • Develop and maintain a standardized teacher observation document.
  • Conduct observations for all candidates during recruitment and provide scoring & recommendations.
  • Conduct probation observations for new teachers.
  • Develop and maintain the Teacher Handbook.
  • Design a full onboarding training program.
  • Deliver a 6-hour onboarding training covering:
    • Company introduction
    • IELTS methodology
    • LMS, EBM & AI systems
    • Writing, speaking, reading modules
    • Classroom management & KTDC standards

1.2 Academic Leadership:

  • Manage the center’s academic operations on a daily basis.
  • Supervise and support 10–12 teachers across all academic areas.
  • Oversee curriculum development, annual updates, and test creation.
  • Ensure all teaching materials, PPTs, and resources are refreshed annually.
  • Support and drive academic innovation (AI integration, LMS enhancements, technology adoption).
  • Assist BOM & Academic Department in planning learning and teaching excellence initiatives, including professional development, quality control process, ideation, and implementation of new learning products.
  • Other tasks assigned by BOM .

2. Teacher Management:

2.1 Scheduling & Workload:

  • Handle minimum 16 teaching hours per month.
  • Handle placement test per month.
  • Assign classes based on capability, experience, and operational needs.
  • Co-manage teacher leave requests and cover arrangements.

2.2 Performance Monitoring:

  • Monitor teaching quality, marking accuracy, and administrative compliance.
  • Ensure alignment with KTDC’s standards for IELTS pedagogy and academic operations.

2.3 Observation Cycle:

  • Conduct ongoing teacher observations every 6–12 months as part of performance review.
  • Provide structured feedback with development plans.

3. Training & Professional Development

3.1 Annual Training Program

  • Develop an annual teacher training roadmap aligned with academic goals.
  • Coordinate and deliver quarterly training sessions.

3.2 Ongoing Development

  • Deliver skill-focused training (e.g., writing marking, listening/reading methodology, critical thinking).
  • Oversee peer observation rotations for cross-learning.
  • Maintain mentorship pairings (e.g., senior-to-junior teacher guidance).

3.3 Performance Management System

  • Develop a comprehensive performance management framework including:
  • Salary level requirements & progression criteria
  • Annual objectives & performance rating system
  • Performance improvement plans (PIPs) for: Teaching standards, Marking standards, Administrative compliance

Manage cases of underperformance through:

  • Coaching
  • Documentation
  • Improvement cycles
  • Follow-up evaluations

4. Testing & Curriculum Management

  • Maintain and update placement, mid-term, and final tests.
  • Oversee both online and offline testing operations.
  • Manage BC test materials and ensure compliance with security protocols.
  • Supervise MOCKTEST creation, calibration, and updates.
  • Coordinate quarterly curriculum and test reviews.

5. Academic Quality & Student Support

  • Monitor student progress, outcomes, and satisfaction indicators.
  • Oversee the 1:1 tutoring system (paid/unpaid model to be finalized).
  • Ensure timely academic responses to PCS staff, parents, and students.
  • Support interventions for at-risk students or classes requiring improvement.

6. Cross-Department Collaboration

  • Assist the General Manager and BOM in managing academic quality-related customer concerns.
  • Assist the BOM in the creation and delivery of timely and accurate reports that monitor and report all center KPIs to the BOM.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Department and Human Resources Department to ensure that people development initiatives for teacher retention and outstanding performance are in place.
  • Work with Marketing on academic videos, campaigns, and teacher participation.
  • Coordinate with PCS on academic concerns and student performance issues.
  • Coordinate with other departments in handling issues related to customer experience.
  • Represent KTDC at external forums, events, and academic panels.
  • Participate in corporate partnerships and external projects (e.g., NK, Home Credit).

7. Technology & Innovation

  • Collaborate with tech partners (e.g., Carcondo) on LMS/AI development and upgrades.
  • Provide academic input for new product rollouts.
  • Lead teacher readiness and adoption training for technological systems.

8. Reporting & Accountability: Submit structured reports to management:

8.1 Weekly Report to GM

  • Teacher performance highlights
  • Class quality issues
  • Marking timeliness & accuracy
  • Test updates
  • Upcoming priorities

8.2 Monthly Report

  • Teacher performance analysis
  • Training conducted
  • New materials or test updates
  • Student performance trends
  • Operational issues & resolutions
  • Goals for the next month

8.3 Quarterly Review

  • KPI achievement (marking time, class satisfaction, pass rates)
  • Staff training summary
  • Test bank update progress
  • AI/LMS adoption updates

9. Job Requirement:

  • Native level English speaker with a passport from the USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand.
  • Hold a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university from one of the countries listed above.
  • CELTA/Trinity certification conducted in-house or an MA in TESOL are strongly preferred, other equivalent TEFL certifications may also be considered.
  • Professionalism and dynamism, with a passion for teaching and a commitment to real English education.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in a related subject. Strong consideration is given to candidates with school management and service sector management expertise.
  • Experience teaching IELTS.
  • Strong focus on setting standards in teaching and learning excellence.
  • Skills: strategy planning, management and leadership, organization, presentation, delegation.
  • Able to train, coach and mentor teachers, with well-developed people skill and ability to manage complex working relationships.
  • Good communication, persuasion, interpersonal and analytical skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal style – with cultural sensitivity to deal with diverse nationalities.
  • Good PC skills in MS Office, especially Excel and Power Point.
