Describe a risk you’ve taken that had a positive result.
You should say:
What the risk was?
What happened when you took this risk?
How you felt about it?And explain why you consider this risk to have been worthwhile.
One risk I took that had a positive outcome was when I decided to move to a new city for my job. It was a major change because I was leaving behind my family, friends, and everything I was familiar with. I had a stable job in my hometown, but I felt like I was not growing much, and I wanted to take on new challenges, so I took the leap and moved to a completely new place. It was definitely a big venture for me.
The result was much better than I had expected. Not only did I adjust to my new job quickly, but also I met a lot of new people, which helped me expand my professional network. The most important outcome, though, was the personal growth I experienced. This opportunity allowed me to develop new skills and gain more confidence in my work.
In addition, I started to feel more independent and capable of handling challenges that I would have avoided before. For example, there were moments when I struggled with adapting to the new work environment, but those challenges pushed me to learn new things. Ultimately, this experience made me more resilient and gave me a sense of accomplishment that I wouldn’t have gotten if I had stayed in my comfort zone.
To be honest, when I first made the decision, I was quite nervous, but now looking back, I can see that taking that risk opened up many doors for me. In conclusion, even though it was a daunting decision, the positive result far outweighed the initial fear.

What needs to be done for 9: To achieve a band 9 for pronunciation, the speaker needs to speak with an even clearer accent and avoid minor inconsistencies that could confuse the listener. Practice with intonation and stress patterns to make speech sound even more natural and expressive.
Fluency with no hesitation or pauses:
Example: “One risk I took that had a positive outcome was when I decided to move to a new city for my job.” The speaker immediately provides the topic without hesitation. Additionally, phrases like “At the time, I was nervous, but now I realize…” allow for a seamless transition between past and present feelings.
Example: The speaker provides specific details for each part of the question, such as “I moved to a completely new place,” “I adjusted quickly,” and “I made good friends,” which ensure a fully developed and coherent response.
Example: The speaker discusses both the professional network and personal growth, providing more than just a surface-level answer to why the risk was worth taking.
Example: The use of “When I reflect on this risk, I honestly feel proud of myself…” introduces the emotional aspect of the story, and phrases like “not only did I adjust…” help to highlight the positive outcomes of the risk.
For a Band 9 in Fluency and Coherence, the candidate must deliver their response naturally and fluidly, without unnecessary pauses or hesitations. They should present fully developed, well-organized ideas and elaborate with details. Additionally, the use of a range of cohesive devices (both simple and complex) is essential to ensure that the response is logical and easy to follow from start to finish.
